You vs The World – Part 2

My brothers and sisters,

As concluded in Part 1, Jesus himself was tempted by Satan, but He fought back and won the victory. Satan’s battle plan never changes but follows an exact or similar format. Pay attention to how Jesus handles the battle of temptation.

NOTE: This happened shortly after Jesus submitted Himself to God via being baptised.

 The Temptation of Jesus

1. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

2. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”

4. But he answered, “It is written,

“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

5. Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6. and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,’

“‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”

7. Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

8. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”

10. Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“‘You shall worship the Lord your God
and him only shall you serve.’”

11. Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

Satan is a liar. IF Jesus listened, He would have jumped to His death. This will result in Jesus not dying on the Cross, and thus not fulfilling His purpose; no sacrifice for humanity’s sin, mankind will be eternally lost and Jesus would have fallen into sin, for disobedience. Praise God that He is all-knowing and aware of his schemes.

As we can see, Satan used the lust of the flesh, eyes and the pride of life model to tempt Jesus, who responded with Old Testament scriptures; the commandments of God Himself.

Please pay attention to a heavy distinction here. Scripture has made it clear and has given us insights to why being tempted, deceived and led astray by any worldly vices is dangerous.

Isaiah 14: 12: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

John 8: 12: When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

According to the Blue Letter Bible interlinear function, the Hebrew word for Lucifer is heylel, a masculine noun which means “light-bearer”, (some translations say Shining One, or Morning Star). Its verb equivalent Halal outlines the following meanings:

The light that Jesus is referring to is described below, the Greek word; Phos.

Both descriptions have stark differences. In Lucifers case, the common theme here is boasting.

Jesus presents himself as the light of brilliance, life and enlightenment. Lucifer, the light bearer, bears light in a boastful manner. Please note, he might not present himself, if indeed, with red horns, a forked tail and a pitchfork.

2 Corinthians 11:14 – And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

Brothers and sisters, we have to be very discerning in opportunities, for not everything is from God.

1. Do you know His will? This is the foundation of being discerning of your environment.

2. Do you know his Word? Can you apply it to your specific circumstance?

3. Has your eyes and flesh been tempted? Are there prospects of achieving or acquiring something that fills you up with boastful pride?

I ask these because the truth is, Satan is here to tempt you with the very things you want the most. Not everything that glitters is gold, and not everything you want is good for you.

James 1: 13-18 (ESV) (Emphasis Added)

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

Temptation is a fact, it will always be there. To fall into temptation implies an action, one where a decision is made to fall in, knowing that the act of indulgence is against God. Sin is committed.

Temptation does not come from God, but from your own desires.

Satan presents the “light” as a way of drawing you towards indulgence.

God is always present to deliver by pointing the way out (Matt 6: 13, 1 Corinthians 10: 13).

You must make the decision to resist or run away from it. Timothy was warned about this in 2 Timothy 2:22 (CEV):

Run from temptations that capture young people. Always do the right thing. Be faithful, loving, and easy to get along with. Worship with people whose hearts are pure.

To conclude, Jesus performed in detail what Scripture says we should do when we are tempted; face to face with the devil himself:

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves, to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Be warned. Satan will be back; he rules the world after all.

Luke 4:13 (ESV) And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.

This is evident in the Gospels when he left Jesus in the desert, got rebuked by Jesus through Peter, (Matt 16:23, Mark 8:33) and then entered Judas Iscariot (Luke 22:3, John 13: 27).

My brothers and sisters, until He calls us home or when He returns, submerge yourselves in His word, pay attention to your surroundings and DO NOT be ignorant of his devices. If you are, he will outwit, outsmart and take advantage of you.

Follow the light; The right one.

You vs the World – Part 1

My brothers and sisters.

I would like to share my Bible study notes with you on a topic that we all must have an awareness of.

Who truly runs the world? The politicians? The financiers? The lawyers? The media? The entertainment industry?

No. The one who runs the world is Satan.

Isaiah 14: 12 – 15 (KJV) provides insight around what I call the Event before Creation and explains how and why Satan, previously known as Lucifer, fell from Heaven (Emphasis added).

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Satan wanted to exalt himself above God, a divine crime. God, being all-knowing, sussed out his plan, and cast him out of heaven.

Jesus, being present in the beginning (1 John 1:1), saw this. In fact, he even told the seventy-two disciples he sent out in Luke 10:18 (ESV):

And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

Satan fell and ended up in the garden of Eden, to tempt Eve, (Genesis 3: 1-5) an act which caused reverberations across the earth, the effects we are seeing today. It is often said that Adam and Eve gave up their title of dominion of the world the moment they sinned against God. In fact, it is probably right to say that Satan still wanted to have dominion over something. If he couldn’t have heaven, then he would take the world.

There are many instances where Jesus Himself and Paul talks about the “status” of Satan (as established above) as a result of his fall, as well as his character and his ultimate goal. Below are a few scriptures to illustrate:

Ephesians 2: 2 (ESV) – and you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.

2 Corinthians 4: 4 (ESV) – In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

John 8: 43-44 (ESV) – Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do what he desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 10: 10 (ESV) – The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Please take heed of the weight behind these scriptures.

We have all been warned about the influence of the world; practices, viewpoints, improper standards and self-seeking behaviours. In fact, scripture has said that being a friend of the world equates with being an enemy of God. (James 4: 4).

With the knowledge of Satan’s character and his link to the world, 1 John 2: 15-16 (ESV) warns us even further (emphasis added; Also, note 2 Corinthians 4:4):

Do not love the world or the things of the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the fleshthe desires of the eyes and the pride of life – is not from the Father but is of the world.

This is the battle plan of Satan, he will tempt you with these worldly tools. He used them with Eve in Genesis 3:6-7 (NIV):

You will not certainly die, the snake said to the woman. For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. When the woman saw the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye,  and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her and he ate it.

Eve had no desire to eat the fruit until Satan came to speak to her. Eve saw that the fruit was good for food, a thought that never came to mind before her encounter with Satan. The pride to become like God and the desire to gain wisdom? Again, that was not present or apparent before her encounter with Satan.

Sidenote: I find it incredibly cheeky considering the circumstances here as Satan said: “For God knows that when you eat from it…”. If this was true, then wouldn’t have God made it clear from the get-go? And look at how he phrased himself, (when you eat from it) as if he had almost anticipated the First Beings eating the fruit, a thought that did not even cross their own mind’s, to begin with!

Also, please remember that this happened before sin entered into the world.

In other words, Satan’s influence can awaken or identify the desire to. I believe that the “desire to” can be awakened when exposed to external influences.  Rick Warren explains the same point well in his book The Purpose Driven Life:

“…Satan identifies a desire inside of you. It may be a sinful desire, like the desire to get revenge or to control others, or it may be a legitimate, normal desire, like the desire to be loved and valued or to feel pleasure. Temptation starts when Satan suggests (with a thought) that you give in to an evil desire, or that you fulfil a legitimate desire in a wrong way or at the wrong time. Always be aware of shortcuts. They are often temptations!”

It is the same when we spend time reading and studying the Bible. The desire to know Him awakens.

We have to pay close attention and be wary of the many sources of influence. Is it satanic/worldly or is it godly/righteous?

Once we recognise that the desires of the flesh, eyes, and life are knocking at our door, we have to respond accordingly.  Jesus did it, and so can you!

To find out how, please keep your eyes out for part two.

Tree of Life

Brothers and Sisters,

I want to share the revelation I had received before the new year, with a simple message:

Do not be lead astray by your thoughts.

I fell into this and it was a rollercoaster. The lies I had believed led to overthinking and making assumptions which led to making excuses and living without purpose and outside God’s good work.

Thank God for redemption.

“I don’t look for scriptures to appease my flesh. I look for them to crucify it.” – Unknown

Guys: There’s is a difference between being wrong and being led astray by the mind/ flesh.

Humble yourselves and return to the Father.
Scripture has to be read in the correct light.

The way I have been rebuked by the Spirit in the past couple of days. 😶
Makes me look back and think “what was I thinking?”

And that’s exactly the problem.

“Don’t operate from a place of feeling or thinking, but operate from a place of knowing.” – @MrVitoSpeaks

From my thinking, I had made excuses. From my feelings, I had acted on impulse.

Not good at all. #LessonLearnt
Ephesians 4: 17 for all who have fallen and haven’t realised.

Forgive us Lord!

Gentiles walk in the futility of their minds!

Who is more knowledgeable, us or the Almighty?

Keep your light burning. If you don’t, people won’t see the way; you will be lost in the dark.

This is not for posting’s sake.

We treat the word of God as the tree of knowledge when it is the tree of life.

Knowledge = Information

Life = For Living

Information acquisition is passive when it is not APPLIED.
Anyone can read/study the word of God.

Are you doing it for knowledge or are you doing it to live?
The Apostles caught the revelation and did something with it. The gospel is now shared across the world.

All recorded in the book of ACTS

They caught the Revelation and they Acted.

Please learn from my mistake, my brothers and sisters. We are in the battle between the flesh and the spirit. The stronger one will be the one you feed more.

Read the word, apply it and live.

Tunde. T Amao

Ps: if you find yourself overthinking and retreat into your mind please be aware that this one form of escapism; entering the realm of thought and not being present in the now. Please search within yourself or with mentors and make practical steps to ensure that you are HERE rather than elsewhere.

The word of God says not to worry. Can any of us add an hour to our lives by worrying? (Matt 6: 25-27) Let us commit to spending the time to work in today, for today and plan and prepare for tomorrow. Amen.

Men and Women: The Real Relationship – Part 1

Hello, my brothers and sisters.

I had to share this post. So much so, that this will be a three-part series as I would like us to take our time and to make sure that we understand what we are about to explore.

From reading various articles, books and hearing a few sermons and, most importantly reading the Bible, something jumped at me. It made me look at the nature of relationships differently. It is counter-cultural and to be honest, it is expected; we are talking about Kingdom principles here.

In short, we have lost sight of what a real relationship between man and woman looks like; the way the Lord God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, has created and established.

I will be painting a picture. All I ask is for the Holy Spirit to move and to help me teach this foundational principle.

Let us begin.

The Trinity is very difficult to describe. The Lord has revealed Himself in three, but He is One. Make no mistake, and place particular attention to what I write next: We serve one God. The One who created the Earth. The Everlasting Father; The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He has revealed Himself, in three; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

The closest (not exact, but close) example we can use is water. Water comes in three forms; Water as a liquid (drinking water), solid (ice) and gas (vapour). These are three forms of water, but they are still water, just in different states.

I say it is a close example because God doesn’t come in three states, which imply three individual separate beings of matter. God revealed himself in three, but He is One. He is ONE and we serve One God.

God has revealed himself in this manner as we see in Scripture (emphasis added) :

Genesis 1: 2 (NIV) – In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the water.

John 1: 1 (NIV) – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

The “He” is referred to the Word. Who is the Word you say?

John 1: 14 (NIV) – The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

We have the Father, the Son; Jesus, and God’s Spirit; the Holy Spirit revealed. The perfect unity. God revealed in three; One God.

As we see in the Book of Genesis, God created the world, the animals and then mankind. Please notice something here; with everything God created (and saw that it was good), there is ONE thing that God saw that was not good: the fact that Man was alone.

Genesis 2: 18 (NIV) – The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’

God loves us. He loves us all. The Bible declares that God is love in 1 John 4: 8: Whoever does not love, does not know God because God is love. In a nutshell, God being love created mankind so He could express that love to us. God expressed that love by Creating man. Seeing that man was made in His image and harbours His qualities, the fact that Adam did not have anything to express his love to is why God created Eve from Adam.

God reached into His Spirit and Created man. He placed the spirit of man into the Male. God saw that the male did not have anything to love, so just like He pulled the spirit of man out of Himself, God pulled out the Male’s rib and used it to create the Female, being the object of the males love, just like God made man (the spirit) the object of His love. The spirit is both in Males and Females because ultimately the Spirit came from Him.

This is why in the deepest areas in the heart of Men wishes for a Woman to pour out his love to her. This is why in the deepest areas in the heart of Women, wishes to be loved by a man.

But look around you. In the name of finding love, many people have gone through terrible ordeals. I don’t need to mention it, you have gone through, or know of someone who had gone through something terrible. Hearts are being broken and are being broken again and again and again. Lust has crept into the hearts of mankind and many people are feeling drained and constantly tired of having their love thrown away or not being reciprocated.

Look at the Trinity. Look at how God in His love had created man and out of man, woman. There is a process, a pattern, a shape; a model.

A real relationship isn’t between two people.

It’s between three.

The Healer of the Heart

Good evening, my brothers and sisters.

I want to encourage you all by saying that Jesus can meet all your needs. Jesus can heal all pain; physical, emotional, you name it. I myself can testify to this as He has touched me this very evening on a particular issue that has made me go through all the emotions under the emotional spectrum, mainly confusion, anger and sorrow.

Jehovah- Rapha = The Lord who heals

We all want to be strong. We all want to be immovable and unshakeable pillars but make no mistake. We will be faced with situations where we are hurt by those who are really close to us, bosom friends, a loved one, boyfriend/girlfriend, a potential partner even your spouse. The pain is so great that you seek for a relief, people who are ready to bear your grief and to offer strength and encouragement which leaves you feeling understood, for a while.

But the pain never goes away. Turning back the hands of time becomes the wish, wanting to go back to where smiles and joy and close togetherness abounds. Yet reality hits home and you are stuck with the only option; moving forward.

Despite the close friends and the encouragement, the pain is never totally understood. It’s never totally appreciated, and the person who caused the pain is living, probably unaware of how much emotional damage they have caused. Maybe they are aware, and it doesn’t faze them. Maybe it does. To put it bluntly, nothing can be done. Life continues and your left dealing with hurt you wished you never had.

My brothers and sisters, remember there is One who understands. There is One who sees all. There is One who sees what happened, whether it was your mistake or someone else’s, and is ever ready to comfort you; the Lord Jesus Christ, our saviour, our closest friend and the One who never disappoints.

1. Read The Bible.

The Word of God. His promises, His words, sharper than a double – edged sword (Hebrews 4: 12). The message from The loving Father to His child. He sees your pain and hurt. This is the first place to turn to. As you read, you are with Him.

2. Talk To Him.

Please, talk to Him. Be honest about how you feel. There is nothing better than having a conversation with someone who genuinely understands. Maybe you wanted to love someone like He loves or your efforts weren’t recognised or appreciated. Maybe you didn’t recognise or appreciate until it was too late. Maybe you served wholeheartedly expecting little in return and was bitterly disappointed. You may have done the right thing, maybe you didn’t. Ask for forgiveness and He will forgive you. But talk to Him.

3. Grieve The Wound.

No matter what happened, whatever was said and done, don’t tell yourself it doesn’t matter, it does matter. It matters to God. If you made a mistake, don’t take the pain as punishment or as something you deserve. Christ died and you are free from condemnation (Romans 8:1). Don’t carry or suppress it either as it will only affect your healing as well as your thoughts, actions and how you relate to other people. If you need to cry, then do so. Remember, it is not a sign of weakness, you are telling your inner soul and expressing to God that it matters.

It matters to you, so it matters to Him.

4. Ask for Healing and Remain in Him.

This is very crucial. You cannot heal properly if you are at a distance from your wound. You will have to go inside that painful place and ask Jesus to meet you there, for that is where your healing will flow from. Right, where it matters. The epicentre, the pain point, whatever you call it. Fall in, own the pain and ask Jesus to heal and take it away.

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

It may happen there and there and then. You may have to do this more than once. It may happen when you surround yourselves with those who offer encouragement, may happen when you’re by yourself. The Lord never disappoints. He will meet you and He will take the pain away.

I am amazed when this happened to myself, I actually felt God move in and cover that place of hurt. When it happens to you, and it definitely will hold your head high, walk in the strength that God has provided you, forgive the person who hurt you and walk forward with the confidence and the knowledge that you have been renewed and the pain cannot hinder and pull you down anymore. Remain connected to God, remain faithful and above all, Thank Him for what He has done to you because of who He is. The epitome of love, Jehovah Rapha.

Philippians 1: 6: being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

May God continue to protect us as we guard our hearts, learn from previous lessons and stride forward in victory, towards new grounds, new beginnings and new opportunities to smile and most importantly to display God’s glory to all those who are seeking Him. Let our testimonies draw others near to the Light of God so that they may receive what their inner hearts are searching for; Jesus Christ. This we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Take a deep breath, smile and walk forwards. Victory is yours.

Never Give Up!

Hello, my friends.

Two years ago, I fell and was stuck in a rough patch; a patch that many have fallen into, but not everyone breaks out of.

I wish to share the lessons that I have learnt whilst being “down in the dumps”.

My friends, please take note of this: Do not allow your circumstances to influence your thinking. You; yes, YOU have the power to change your circumstances. Life is difficult, but don’t let it bully you into submission. Don’t allow it to force you into a corner and you not do anything about it. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is bigger than our life circumstances, and not understanding, nor appreciating that God is in control will dampen your mood and make you question your self-worth.

Romans 12:2: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Please note: God wants us to test and to approve what His will is; He wants us to do this. We just have to choose to renew our minds. Again, we have to choose to do this.

You are too special to do this yourself. You are fearfully and wonderfully made and everything God has placed in you is wonderful (Psalm 139: 14). A good friend had told me not to pigeonhole yourself in one place. Life is filled with many things that one can venture into. Yes, it may mean stepping out of your comfort zone, but it’s a small price to pay compared to staying there and having zero chance to make life more positive for yourself.

Proverbs 16: 3: Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Proverbs 3: 5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.

Do not forget the God you serve. Do not forget the hope that Jesus had died, and rose again for. Do not place your hope in man; they will disappoint you. Do not place your hope in things, for they can be taken away. Remain steadfast in the teachings of God and ask Him to lead you. He is the ONLY one who can fulfil your heart’s desire. Only He can lead you out of the dumps either through His word or through people who he has appointed to encourage you.

Life will always go up and down. When you fall down, it doesn’t mean you should stay down. Don’t build your house on sinking sand, but on the solid rock of Christ. Stay close to God and He will never let you down. The way will be made and all have to do is summon the courage to walk through. You owe it to yourselves.

Isaiah 43: 18 -19: Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

We will make it my brothers and sisters! Never give up!
